PAPER TO FABRIC
“Low Tide.” This piece features images of starfish and shells in a beach like setting. It started with a colored pencil drawing on paper that I was doing as an example for my student art classes. I brought the drawing home and completed it, then took it a step further by scanning my drawing into the computer and printing the image onto fabric. A whole new world opened to me as I saw the possibilities of working from paper to fabric. Being able to design my own fabric from my drawings and paintings soon became the inspiration for other pieces. “Low Tide” was printed on fabric twice. One was kept whole, while the second was cut into pieces creating smaller compositions to create the harmonious result. A third dimension was created by combining oil paint stick texture rubbing on top of a real star fish, and real sea shells under silk fabric as part of the piece. Extreme free motion quilting provided the final textures.
